The United States won the Presidents Cup. Mike Weir gave Canada quite a consolation prize. Britain and Ireland take Seve Trophy (AP)

Britain & Ireland routed Continental Europe 8-2 in the singles Sunday to retain the Seve Trophy 16 1/2 -11 1/2 . Trailing by a point heading into the singles, Nick Faldo’s team won six and halved two of the first eight matches to clinch the victory with two singles left. Bradley Dredge got the decisive win by making a birdie to go 2 up with two to play against Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.

Woods to face Weir in Sunday singles (AP)

Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player needed only four words and about two seconds to set the marquee Sunday singles match in the Presidents Cup. Nicklaus made the first move Saturday night, immediately calling out “Tiger Woods” with the U.S. selection for the fourth match. Player replied “Mike Weir” just as fast.

The Presidents Cup is supposed to be a team event. Based on the beating the Americans delivered Saturday, the only excitement left is one match between the two biggest stars at Royal Montreal. Thousands of Canadian fans who wanted to see the International team hoist the cup might have to settle for a consolation prize of their beloved Mike Weir trying to take down Tiger Woods.

Branshaw keeps lead at Viking Classic (AP)

With caddie Steve Duplantis by his side, David Branshaw is closer to a PGA Tour victory than he’s ever been. David Branshaw shot a 3-under-par 69 Saturday to lead by two strokes after three rounds of the Viking Classic. He has a crowd of 17 golfers within six shots of his 13 under going into the final day, but he feels his confidence growing with his new hire Duplantis carrying his bag.

Continental Europe clung to a 9 1/2 -8 1/2 lead after Britain & Ireland rallied in the foursomes Saturday in the Seve Trophy. The tournament ends with 10 singles matches Sunday. Europe won three and halved one of the four greensomes to open an 8 1/2 -5 1/2 lead, before Britain & Ireland won three of the afternoon foursomes.

US sweeps Presidents Cup morning matches (AP)

Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk rebounded from a blowout loss in the Presidents Cup to help the United States sweep the five Saturday morning foursomes matches for a 12-5 lead over the International team. Overwhelmed by Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby in a 5-and-4 fourball rout Friday afternoon, Woods and Furyk returned to Royal Montreal to beat Ernie Els and Adam Scott 4 and 3 in alternate-shot play.

Woody Austin took a plunge. Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk found themselves in over their heads, too, at the Presidents Cup. After falling face-first into a lake, Austin birdied the last three holes to help his team earn a half-point Friday. Overwhelmed by a flood of birdies and eagles, Woods and Furyk were no match for Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby in a 5-and-4 loss.
